Choose from two main routes to reach Taylor Park, each offering breathtaking scenery along the way. Follow our guide to travel through Buena Vista and over Cottonwood Pass or Gunnison and Taylor Canyon. Keep in mind, weather and road conditions can impact travel times and routes, so be sure to plan accordingly before setting out on your journey.
Via Buena Vista and Cottonwood Pass
Cottonwood Pass is: CLOSED
- Take US-285 South from Denver towards Fairplay and Buena Vista.
- In Johnson Village, turn right (traffic light) onto US-24 South towards Buena Vista.
- In Buena Vista, turn left at Main Street onto CO-306 and continue for about 16 miles to the Continental divide.
- Continue over Cottonwood Pass Road (Now CO-209) into Taylor Park.
- For the Taylor Park Trading Post, turn left County Road 742. The Trading Post will be on your left.
- Important: Cottonwood Pass is a seasonal road and is closed by gates (late October – late May) during the winter months due to heavy snow.
Via Monarch Pass, Gunnison and Taylor Canyon
- Take US-285 South from Denver towards Fairplay and Buena Vista.
- In Johnson Village, turn left (traffic light) onto US-285 South towards Poncha Springs and Salida.
- In Poncha Springs, turn right onto US-50 West towards Gunnison. Follow US-50 West (over Monarch Pass) for about 49 miles to Gunnison.
- In Gunnison, turn right onto CO-135 North towards Almont and Crested Butte.
- In Almont, turn right on County Road 742 and travel through Taylor Canyon and drive pass the Taylor Park Reservoir Dam.
- The Trading Post will be on your right past the Taylor Park Marina.
