Thanksgiving in Taylor Park, Colorado

Taylor Reservoir - Late November

Thanksgiving in Taylor Park does not disappoint. Marking the end of hunting season, Thanksgiving in Taylor Park is truly a peaceful way to celebrate the holiday of gratitude. It’s a quieter time of year around here. The summer crowds have dissipated, and the fall leaf peepers have left with the seasonal closing of Cottonwood Pass. The campers have packed up for the most part. Only those willing to brave the cold overnight temperatures (-15 this week) occupy an occasional camp site. There’s not quite enough snow for snowmobiling yet, but too much snow to go too far via OHV, making it a great time for more low-key activities, such as afternoon hikes, or short snow shoeing treks.

The Trading Post and Nugget Café are closed for the season, as well as Holts Guest Ranch and Frenchie’s Café. Route 765 to Tincup is also closed to public vehicles and all wheeled vehicles. Snow removal does not take place beyond the Trading Post in the winter.

These conditions make celebrating Thanksgiving in Taylor Park the perfect way to spend the holiday reflecting on all there is to be grateful for: the calm of the season, sunny days, cooler temperatures, and majestic mountains reflecting on the calm waters of Taylor Reservoir. There isn’t better scenery to celebrate all that is right in your world.
