Below is a list of important information to help you enjoy your trip to Taylor Park, Colorado.
Cell Coverage
There is very little cell coverage in this entire area, regardless of who your carrier/provider is. The best spot to gain coverage is the Taylor Park Trading Post. Outside the direct area of The Trading Post, plan on not having any cell service.
Emergency Services
EMS will take 1-1.5 hours to arrive once you or someone has been able to call them. Once EMS arrives and assesses the injured party, plan on another 1-1.5 hours to transport to a hospital. More urgent situations may require helicopter. Be Wise here. Taylor Park is remote. It is also advised to bring a first aid kit for minor scraps, cut and burns. Don’t get hurt doing silly things.
Wear a Helmet While You Off-road
Many of the trails here are rough with lots of rocks. ONe of the main reason EMS needs to be dispatched is head injures. Head injuries can easily occur by hitting your head on the roll bar on rough road or by your off-road machine rolling over. Helmets will also keep you warm and less dusty.
Off-road Hand Signals
Knowing the proper hand signals on the trials will keep everyone safer. If you have a group of five riders, the leader will hold up four fingers as they pass oncoming traffic. This indicates there are four riders behind the leader. The next person will hold up three fingers indicating there are three riders left. This continues until the last rider who holds ups a closed first, indicated there are no more riders.
Stay on the Trails
Please keep Taylor Park beautiful and stay on the trail. Trails are starting to get closed down here as areas around certain trails are getting damaged. Learn more responsible OHV use and the Stay The Trail Program to keep Colorado trails open.
Private Property
It is strongly advised to not trespass on private property in Taylor Park. Many of the locals have deep, historic roots to the area and while very kind, do not take kindly to trespassers. It is worth repeating, trespassing here is not advisable.
Gates
If a gate is not marked private property or with a do not enter sign, you may go through it. The rule is if the gate is open, leave it open. If the gate is closed, reclose the gate after you go through it. This is for ranchers that want to contain their cattle.
Groceries
It is highly recommended to bring what you plan to eat as there is not a grocery store in Taylor Park. The Trading Post does have snacks, canned food and other essentials, but not much beyond that. The last good place to buy groceries is the City Market in Buena Vista or in Gunnison (City Market and Walmart).
Fuel
The only place to get fuel in Taylor Park is the Trading Post. They have Diesel, Regular Unleaded and Ethanol Free Unleaded. Prices are high, so it is recommended you fill up in Buena Vista or Gunnison before arriving.
Propane
Propane tanks can be refilled at the Trading Post during open hours. They do not sell tanks.
Fire Restrictions
